West Virginia Cops Give Drivers Gift Cards, Not Tickets

Getting pulled over by the cops is never a good thing, except for some lucky drivers in West Virginia last week. Police with the South Charleston Police Department were stopping drivers for traffic violations, but instead of handing out tickets, they gave away gift cards.

The holiday surprises were courtesy of the West Virginia Fraternal Order of Police, who donated $500 in Chick-fil-A gift cards to the department. When drivers got pulled over, some were surprised with a $10 gift card rather than a ticket. And the officers involved had fun spreading cheer and lifting spirits.

“Usually, people aren’t too happy when you pull them over,” explains Patrol Officer Justin Morris. “But to put a smile on someone’s face like that, it’s a good feeling.”
