Man’s Solo Row Across Atlantic Ocean Raises More Than $1M For Charity

A 70-year-old British man whose motto is “You’re never too old” has just completed an impressive accomplishment. Frank Rothwell finished a 3-thousand-mile solo rowing trip across the Atlantic Ocean and raised more than a million dollars for charity in the process. He has also become the oldest person to complete the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge.

Rothwell set off from the Canary Islands on December 12th and spent 56 days at sea before arriving in Antigua last Saturday. He was even a week ahead of schedule, according to hiswebsite. His goal with the trip was to raise money for Alzheimer’s Research UK, a cause near and dear to his heart because he lost his brother-in-law to Alzheimer’s.

“I felt quite emotional approaching the finish,” he explains. “It took six long weeks to row the Atlantic, but the challenge itself has taken over 18 months of training and preparation, so I'm very proud of what I've achieved and the unbelievable journey I've been on.”
