Ashlyne Wallen is speaking out on the racism controversy involving her brother Morgan Wallen.
On Friday (February 5), Ashlyne released a statement about the ire the country star has drawn for using the N-word in a video that’s been circulating online. In her post, she acknowledges her brother’s wrongdoing yet implores fans to be understanding and forgiving and to give Morgan “the opportunity to correct his mistake and learn from it.”
“There are 3 things you should ever do about a mistake: admit it, learn from it, and don’t repeat it,” Ashlyne begins in one of a series of statements shared on Instagram.
“I know my brother. He is my best friend, and although what he said was completely unacceptable, I know in my heart that it did not come from a place of hate or malicious intent,” Ashlyne insisted, adding, “Should he have said it? No. But should he be given the opportunity to correct his mistake and learn from it? Yes.”
“He is not the kind of person who would ever want to hurt anyone, but contrary to popular belief, he’s also human. And sometimes, humans make big mistakes.”
Elsewhere, Ashlyne also condemned her brother’s use of the racially insulting term, which she says “should not be in anyone’s vocabulary.”
“While derogatory language is unacceptable and ignorant in any situation, I do not believe the pure hate he has received is beneficial to the situation in anyway,” she added. “I have seen firsthand how the repercussions of his actions have affected him, and whole it is important that he understands the gravity of what he said, the comments … are getting out of control.”
She concluded, “If you don’t have anything kind to say, please say nothing at all. The only thing our world needs more of is love.”
Since the scandal broke, Morgan has been widely denounced by his country music peers and has suffered several professional and business losses, having been dropped by his agency, William Morris Endeavor, and suspended by his record label.
