National Tattoo Day: America's Top Tattoo Trends, and the Worst Ones

If you've been hanging out at the beach this summer, you've probably seen some cool tattoos . . . and some REALLY TERRIBLE INK.

Today is National Tattoo Day . . . and there's a new Google Trends map of the "most searched tattoo designs" in every state, over the past 12 months.

Unfortunately, it's limited to just five BASICS: Names . . . Hearts . . . Crosses . . . Flowers . . . and Roses.  (Which apparently didn't count as flowers.) (???)

Names are #1 in 13 states: Washington, Oregon, Nevada, Colorado, Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, South Carolina, Wisconsin, New Jersey, and Delaware

Hearts are #1 in 10 states: Alaska, Hawaii, Arizona, New Mexico, Kansas, Minnesota, Alabama, Georgia, Connecticut, and New Hampshire.

Crosses are #1 four states: Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, and Ohio.

Flowers are #1 in 16 states: California, Utah, Nebraska, Iowa, Missouri, Kentucky, Michigan, West Virginia, Virginia, North Carolina, Florida, Maryland, New York, Massachusetts, Vermont, and Maine.

And Roses are #1 in seven states: Wyoming, South Dakota, Oklahoma, Illinois, Indiana, Pennsylvania, and Rhode Island.

The internet also has a ranking of the WORST tattoo trends ever, topped by:

1. Super long quotes.

2. Bows on your calves or thighs.

3. Barbed wire bands.

4. Manual, DIY "stick 'n' poke tattoos"

5. Chinese characters

6. Tramp stamps

Others on the list include: Paw prints, tribal patterns, anchors, and one-word statements, like "Breathe" or Lover" . . . especially on your FACE.
