Lainey Wilson shared a behind-the-scenes look at her “Phone, Keys, Wallet” music video, which features a headless version of the country superstar.
Wilson filmed the lighthearted, hilarious visual in Mount Juliet, Tennessee, outside of Nashville. The reigning Country Music Association Entertainer of the Year (and returning host at the 60th annual show) chases her head as she gathers her essential items throughout the video.
Director TK McKamy said in the behind-the-scenes look on Friday (October 2) that it was “a crazy idea we came up with where I take the head off the biggest superstar in country music and have a whole performance video where she is headless. That should go well. This idea really just kind of leans into the quirky nature of Lainey Wilson. …Her personality is so broad and fun and playful. This is a fun idea we think is going to communicate some of that.”
The “Phone, Keys, Wallet” video arrived on September 25, a few months after the single’s debut. Wilson said when she released “Phone, Keys, Wallet,” featuring John Mayer, that the song “is about finding somebody who loves you for every messy, imperfect, chaotic version of yourself.” She said, “I feel like a tornado with boots on half the time, and this song is really about finding somebody who’s okay with that chaos and chooses to love you through it anyway.” Wilson wrote it with Kid Harpoon, Jon Decious, Dan Pellarin, Dallas Wilson, Trannie Anderson and Summer Overstreet.
