Need to end a relationship but really don’t know what to say? AI is here to help. That’s right, Gen Z is using artificial intelligence to help them with their breakups. At least that’s what a new survey of 1,000 U.S. adults from dating assistant Wingmate found.
According to the survey:
- 41% of young adults have used AI to help end a relationship
- Almost 50% of Gen Z have turned to AI to help write breakup texts, apologies, or to help manage relationship conflicts
- About one-third use it for dating advice
- Almost 50% used it to write apologies or other emotionally sensitive messages
- 29% said dating’s “simpler” with AI
- 21% said AI has helped them talk to people
- Over 50% say they have better conversations when using AI
- 57% would trust AI over a friend for dating advice
Former Tinder and Bumble in-house socialologist Dr. Jess Carbino explains that using AI to break up with someone for you can be depriving. “Individuals might also mistakenly assume that what AI generates in this domain is valid or appropriate, when matters of the heart often are more delicate, require nuance, and merit personalization,” she says.
