Jana Kramer is finished with Nashville.
In an interview with the publication Chicago Splash, Jana revealed that she’s packed up her Nashville home and moved back to Los Angeles. The move comes months after Jana quietly parted ways with her record label home of the last six years, Warner Music Nashville.
Apparently, Music City wasn’t a good fit for the petite singer. “Nashville wanted to put me in a box. [It dictated] how I was supposed to sing and what I was supposed to sing about,” she says. “I’m just not the kind of artist that’s meant to be in a box.”
After establishing herself as an actress, Jana started strong with her music career, landing a Top 5 single with “Why Ya Wanna” in 2011, and winning an Academy of Country Music Award for new female vocalist of the year in 2013. But after two albums, her hits had slowed down in recent years and not even an appearance as a contestant on “Dancing With the Stars,” could get her back on track.
But there’s really good news for her fans. In the same interview, Jana revealed she has a new EP in the works, and says the music she’s recorded for it is “100 percent me—it’s very authentic to who I am.” That authenticity has likely come from the ups and downs of her life in recent years, including a 2016 split from her third husband, former NFL player Mike Caussin, not long after the birth of their daughter, Jolie. “If I haven’t lived it, I won’t sing it,” she says now.
Best know for her role in “One Tree Hill,” Jana has returned to acting with a recent starring role in a Hallmark Channel movie, and a new movie set to film in August.
