Cuffing Season is in full swing and the year is winding down, which means it’s time for year-end wrap ups, like Tinder’s Year in Swipe 2024. The annual report analyzes data from bios, surveys and behavior of users around the world to give us a recap of the most popular trends on the dating app over the last year and what singles can look forward to in 2025.
Highlights from Tinder’s Year In Swipe 2024 include:
- “Loud looking” is the top dating trend of the year - “Looking for” was Tinder’s top bio mention of the year, which shows that singles are taking charge and being upfront about what they want in a partner, whether it’s a “man in finance” or a “gamer girlfriend.”
- Manifesting “kiss-met” love - This is a spin on “kismet,” which means fate or destiny, and it’s basically embracing the “magic of the unplanned,” by ditching dating rules and welcoming spontaneous, authentic connections.
- Speaking of manifesting - Nearly 20% of surveyed singles report that they’re creating vision boards to manifest a relationship in the year ahead. Tinder is even rolling out a new interactive vision board tool so users can create one in the app.
- “Pickleball” was the fastest-growing mention in user bios - Mentions of the popular sport were up 148%, followed by “freak,” which is most likely from users asking for someone to match their freak (up 118%).
- Tinder users report their top communication style is “better in person,” while the top love style (similar to a love language) is time together.
- The fastest-growing emojis on the app were - the pink bow, cloud, backpack, palm and owl.
- Nearly half (45%) of Tinder users want a “golden retriever” type in 2025 - As in a partner who’s loyal, friendly, energetic, and optimistic.
- The top deal-breakers of the year for singles are bad hygiene (50%), rudeness (44%) and talking too much about an ex (34%).
- No romantic connection is too small, thanks to nano-ships - Singles are defining all kinds of romances, even the tiniest interactions matter, whether it’s an “eyecontactship” from a quick spark with someone on the train or a “textuationship” with the person who texts you “good morning” every day.
