Want To Make New Friends? Use These Phrases

Making friends as an adult is hard. You can’t just go up to someone and say, “Hi, my name is Sally! What’s your name?” Or can you?

OK, maybe not that phrase, but there are some phrases you can say that’ll break the ice and help you make new friends. They’re simpler than you realize, too. If you want to make a new friend, try saying one of these things to someone new. They’re great ways to strike up a conversation and hopefully lead to a friendship!

  • “I love your ____! Where did you get it?”
  • “How do you like ____?”
  • “Do you have any recommendations for _____?”
  • “It was great to meet you. I’d love to stay in touch, if you’re open to it. How do you like to stay connected?”
  • “I’ve enjoyed getting to know you. Let’s make plans to hang out more often.”
  • “____ made me think of you. I’ve been meaning to reach out. How have you been?”
  • 'I'm always looking for new friends to [try/do a particular activity]. Would you be interested?'
