Signs You’re Getting Old, According To Kids

Do you love gardening or enjoy drinking tea? We hate to be the bearer of bad news, but those are telltale signs you’re old, according to a new survey of children. Even more surprising? Half of the kids think listening to the radio is a red flag you’re getting up there in years.

According to the poll of 1,000 children between ages seven and 16, the age when you officially become “old” is probably a lot younger than you’d think. The kids say it happens when you hit 49.

  • As if that’s not bad enough, 15% consider anyone over 30 “old” and 20% believe people stop having fun once they reach the big 3-0.
  • Another 18% say people over 30 are boring and 12% say thirtysomethings are too old to play sports or exercise.
  • The youngsters say the worst parts about getting old are the aches and pains (56%), wrinkles (52%) and grey hair (49%).
  • They also see forgetting things (46%) and needing glasses (39%) as major downsides to aging.
  • If you have kids, they probably think you’re over the hill, as 45% of kids say they think their parents are old.
  • But the youngsters do see some upsides to aging, including having more money (52%), more life experience (47%) and understanding more about life in general (45%).
  • And when they get older, kids say they want to be happy (29%), fun (27%) and healthy (21%).
