The long-awaited official release of Cody Johnson's version of "Travelin' Soldier" came out Friday.
In a video posted on social media, Johnson revealed why he finally went into the studio to record a proper version of the track. "This is just because we love you guys and figured we’d give you what you want."
The song was written and originally recorded by Bruce Robison in 1996; Ty England included a version on his 1999 album "Highways & Dancehalls." The version by the Dixie Chicks on their 2002 album "Home" took the largely unknown track and made it a massive hit.
Now, over two decades later, a new generation hears the song from one of country's biggest stars.
