We Rely On AI More Than We Think

Ready or not, the future is here, and AI plays a big role in it. While some people welcome the high tech help, others are resistant to it, but it turns out, they’re probably already using it more than they think.

A new survey of 2-thousand U.S. adults looks at how AI is used on a daily basis and finds that a lot of people have no idea all the ways AI is already involved in what they do. Our phones are a huge part of that, as nine in 10 Americans use AI on their phone, but only 38% realize they do.

  • Half of those polled don’t think they use AI on their phones, but 86% report using features that are common AI tools daily.
  • The thing is, many people are unaware that AI is involved in things like weather alerts (42%), call screening (35%), autocorrect (34%), voice assistants (26%) and auto brightness (25%).
  • AI also powers camera features like night mode (19%) and photo memory slideshows (20%).
  • When it comes to general phone use, one in six use theirs for at least 10 different tasks related to work in a day and more than twice that many (38%) do personal tasks every day on their device.
  • More than half (55%) of all respondents primarily use their phone for job-related tasks more than any other device, and 74% of Gen Z does.
  • Another 60% report using their phone more than any other device to stay organized.
  • The average person only uses half the apps on their phone regularly, but 57% feel confident they could describe what every feature on their phone does, even if they don’t use them.
  • Americans say they’re most interested in using AI to help them save time on tasks (28%), help make tasks easier (27%), provide instant solutions (23%) and to improve skills or learn new things (22%).
  • The features people would like to see their phone have in the next decade include more advanced AI capabilities including “health monitoring, detecting vital signs and providing personalized wellness insights and alerts” and for the phone “to last an entire week on a single charge while staying just as fast and powerful.”
