Getting a tattoo is a big deal since it’s most likely going to be something you have to see on yourself for the rest of your life, which is why some people spend years deciding what they want to get. But for others, it’s much more spontaneous. A new survey reveals that three in 10 tattoos are totally spur-of-the-moment decisions.
According to the poll of 1,000 adults with body art, 17% say their most recent tattoo was done on the same day they decided to get it. And for 6%, it happened within the same hour.
- When deciding to get inked on the fly, 31% say they were with friends, and 30% did it on vacation.
- More than half of those polled (56%) say they use tattoos to show their commitment to something they love.
- This includes 33% who have tribute tattoos for their parents, 24% who have them for their dogs and 23% for their favorite band.
- But not all ink is so sentimental, as 21% have tattoos inspired by cartoon characters, 11% have one related to a meme, and 7% have a tattoo of their favorite food.
- Regardless of what kind of body art they get, it can have an emotional impact. For 41%, their ink makes them feel more like themselves, while 31% feel more creative, and 17% feel more rebellious.
- While 41% were warned they’d regret a tattoo, only 25% say they regret one of theirs.
- Surprisingly, 37% believe people are more likely to regret a drunken text than a tattoo.
- Overall, 55% think getting a tattoo is a brave way to show what you love.
- And no matter what their body art represents, 65% believe theirs is a key part of their identity.
