World's Oldest Dog Has Title Taken After Over Age Investigation

A dog who had held the title of world’s “oldest ever dog” by the Guinness World Records is having his title posthumously snatched away. The pooch named “Bobi” had initially been confirmed by the Veterinary Medical Service of the Municipality of Leiria in Portugal, which claimed Bobi was 31 years old.

However, suspicions began to emerge soon after Bobi’s death regarding the evidence that reportedly proved his real age. The dog’s owner, Leonel Costa, says he was 8 years old when Bobi, a Rafeiro do Alentejos, was born in 1992. Rafeiro do Alentejos usually have a life expectancy of about 13 years, according to the American Kennel Club. Meanwhile, a GWR spokesperson says, “While our review is ongoing we have decided to temporarily pause both the record titles for oldest dog living & ever just until all of our findings are in place.”
