America's oldest person, Edie Ceccarelli, recently celebrated her 116th birthday in her small hometown of Willits, California. Despite a winter storm, the town organized a parade in her honor and local officials presented her with a proclamation. The parade featured local musicians, the fire brigade, and well-wishers who brought flowers and handmade cards for the birthday girl.
Ceccarelli, who was born and raised in Willits and has deep roots in the community, has earned the distinction of being a supercentenarian, living past 110, and is the second-oldest person in the world. She’s outlived all her immediate family and friends, but she has the community of Willits where she’s celebrated with each passing year.
When asked about the secret to her long life, Ceccarelli humorously attributes it to "two fingers of red wine" and minding her own business. It doesn’t hurt that she has the support of her caretakers at Holy Spirit Residential Care Home and her community's deep respect and affection helping to carry her through her golden years.
