Amanda Trevino and her husband were driving in Katy, Texas, when they spotted half a dozen packages and boxes along the road. They were shipments from Amazon and the U.S. Postal Service that had been taken by porch pirates and ditched. Some of the boxes were open, others weren’t, but she felt like she couldn’t leave them there.
Trevino scooped up the packages and contacted Amazon and USPS to come get them, but they told her to keep them or donate them to charity instead. The companies explained that the customers would be compensated if they reported them missing, but Trevino wanted to return the gifts to the folks who ordered them.
So she started going door to door herself and while some people were suspicious of her motives, others were grateful for her good deed. Trevino blames the lukewarm reception she got on the uncertainty and stressful times we’re living in. “I just know with the times now, people are on edge,” she says, adding, “I would still do it again.”
