Vinyl album sales have hit a historic high in the United States. New Nielsen Music data shows that in the week around Thanksgiving and Black Friday, more than one-million vinyl albums were sold, the largest sales week for the format since Nielsen and MRC Data started tracking music sales in 1991.
Of course, it has a lot to do with Record Store Day’s Black Friday festivities – especially at independent record stores. Indie physical stores sales accounted for 542K of the vinyl albums sold, the second-largest week ever for indie store vinyl sales just after last year.
The top selling vinyl album of the week?Harry Styles’“Fine Line.” Also among the Top 10 most popular are rockers like Queen for their“Greatest Hits” album, along withPhish’s“Sigma Oasis,”The Beatles“Abbey Road,”Alice In Chains’“Sap” EP,U2’s“Boy” album, andMy Chemical Romance’s“Life on the Murder Scene.”
