TikTok Hacks To Help Produce Last Longer

Tired of having to toss produce because it spoils before you have a chance to use it? TikTok has our backs with helpful hacks to help our fresh herbs, fruits and vegetables last longer.

  • Use a jar to keep lettuce fresh for longer- Keep your lettuce crisp for up to a month by stuffing leaves in a glass jar filled with water. According to thisvideo, it will stay fresh for weeks like this in the fridge and when you’re ready, just drain it and eat. And it works for kale, too.
  • Soak raspberries in water with a dash of vinegar- Tired of your raspberries getting moldy? Soak them in water with a little vinegar for about 10 minutes, then dry them and put them back in their container with a paper towel lining the bottom. Thisvideoexplains the acidity of the vinegar kills surface bacteria, so the berries stay fresh longer.
  • Store mushrooms in a paper bag- Avoid slimy ‘shrooms by storing them inside a large paper bag inside the fridge. ThisTikTokclip says this gives them room to breathe and will keep them fresh for about a week.
  • Use a plastic bag to store fresh herbs- Store your leafy herbs in a glass half-filled with water, then cover it with a large plastic bag and secure it around tightly with a rubber band. According to thisvideo, a beeswax reusable wrap will also work instead of the plastic bag and the herbs will stay fresh this way in the fridge for up to three weeks.
  • Store onions and garlic in a DIY storage bag- Help your onions and garlic last up to three months by storing them in a paper bag. ThisTikTokhack has us use a hole-puncher to make holes one-inch apart on the bag before filling it halfway up with onions and garlic, then store the bag in a cool, dry place.
