June 21stis Go Skateboarding Day! Skateboarding started in the 1940’s. Many legends say that it came from California surfers who wanted to surf on land. Today, people all over love the sport, but California is still the capital of the community.
Some popular skateboarding tricks you can try today are aerials, ollies, grinds, and spins. The annual X Games competition celebrates skateboarding, and features some of the best athletes in the sport. Tony Hawk, one of the world’s most well-known skaters, became the first to land a “900” spin back in 1999.
To celebrate, go show off some of your skateboarding skills t the local park, and maybe teach someone how to ride! If you have no experience skateboarding, today is the perfect excuse to teach yourself!
