You Can Expect More Americans To Be Traveling This July 4th Weekend

July 4thweekend is just around the corner, and unlike last year, when few people could go anywhere, Americans are ready to travel again.

  • According to the AAA, 47.9-million Americans will travel over the July 4th holiday, which is close to a full recovery from pre-pandemic levels.
  • That number is a 40% increase from last year, and only 2.5% fewer people as compared to 2019.
  • Overall, road trips will continue to be the most popular form of travel over the holiday, with 43.6 million people hitting the road, a record for the holiday and up 5% from 2019.
  • When it comes to air travel, 3.5-million people will be flying to their destination, about 90% of pre-pandemic levels.
  • About 620,000 Americans will head to their destination with other forms of travel, like trains, buses and even some cruise ships, which is 83% lower than in 2019.

Of course with all those people hitting the road, there’s going to be a lot of traffic.

  • AAA and INRIX note the worst time to travel will likely be Thursday, July 2ndbetween 3:00 to 5:00 pm, and Friday, July 3rdbetween 4 pm and 5 pm, as well as Monday, July 5thbetween 4 pm and 5 pm.
  • ONE MORE THING! As for where everyone is going, Disney seems to be popular, with AAA reporting that Orlando, Florida is the top July 4thdestination followed Anaheim, California, both locations of Disney theme parks.
