Governor McConaughey? Not such a crazy idea, actually. Matthew McConaughey has been pretty outspoken on a number of issues, and while former Congressman Beto O’Rourke recently stepped up to say he’s throwing his hat in the ring, a new survey shows that he doesn’t just have Governor Greg Abbott to consider.
Now, McConaughey hasn’t actually said he’s planning to run – but his recent statements suggest it’s a definite possibility. And according to voters?A new poll from the University of Texas and the “Dallas Morning News” finds that McConaughey is preferred in one-on-one matchups with either O’Rourke or Abbott, but in a three-way race, Abbott comes out on top. It looks like this:
- A race between Abbott (the two-term GOP incumbent) and O’Rourke has Abbott leading among all registered voters, 45%-39%.
- Still, a substantial 22% want someone else to be governor.
- When it comes to McConaughey or O’Rourke, voters choose the actor by a margin of two-to-one.
- For Democrats, however, O’Rourke is their pick 65%-11%.
- As for that three-way contest? Abbott is the choice of 37%; McConaughey 27%; and O’Rourke 26%. 10% of voters want someone else.
