Every Student At Chicago High School Gets College Scholarships

A nonprofit announces that every student at a Chicago high school will receive a full-ride college scholarship. Hope Chicago, an organization that helps support Chicago public school graduates, announces that each of the more than 17-hundred students at Benito Juárez Community Academy on Chicago’s Lower West Side will get a fully-funded scholarship to attend college.

Tuition, room and board, books, and fees will be paid in full for the students if they attend one of Hope Chicago’s 20 partner institutions across the state of Illinois, which include the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Illinois State University. The scholarships represent $40-million in funding of the $1-billion Hope Chicago plans to raise and invest in Chicago public school grads over the next decade.

Benito Juárez is the first of five schools that will get the same good news this week. A total of four-thousand students will get the same debt-free scholarship offer. Benito Juárez principal Juan Carlos Ocon says the scholarships provide hope for students and their families. “This is life changing,” he says. “This is going to transform the life of my families, my students, this is going to mean the whole world to them.”
