A woman survived for six days on yogurt and snow in the California wilderness before being rescued. On April 14th, Sheena Gullett, 52, and Justin Lonich, 48, were driving to their hometown of Little Valley down a dirt road in a remote area in northern California when their vehicle got stuck in the snow. They spent the night in the car and the next morning attempted to hike to the nearest highway. But the couple got separated and couldn’t find each other due to heavy snowfall.
Lonich continued on, hiking for two days and eventually reaching the highway and hitching a ride to the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office, where he reported Gullett missing. Gullett was able to make it back to the vehicle, where she waited to be found, rationing a six pack of yogurts, eating one per day, and eating snow because she didn’t have any water.
Everyday, sheriff’s deputies and the US Forest Service searched for Gullett on foot and when weather allowed, by air from a helicopter. Finally, on April 20th, the vehicle was located by a sheriff’s sergeant. “Immediately upon his arrival, Sheena came out of the vehicle,” the sheriff's office says. “She was very emotional, but physically okay." Gullett was transported to the Ranger Station and checked out by medical personnel, and found to be in good health. She’s now safely back home.
