Celebs Getting Suspended From Twitter Over Impersonating Elon

Back on October 28th Elon Musk tweeted that “Comedy is now legal on Twitter.” But when celebs tried being funny by impersonating Musk as the war over blue checkmarks continues...he isn't getting the joke.

"Going forward, any Twitter handles engaging in impersonation without clearly specifying "parody" will be permanently suspended," Musk wrote. While Twitter previously issued warnings before suspensions, now that it is rolling out "widespread verification, there will be no warning." Heads have already rolled.

Comedienne Kathy Griffin’s account was suspended after using both “Elon Musk” as her display name and his profile photo as hers. Undeterred, Griffin rebelled against Musk by then tweeting “#FreeKathy” from the account of her late mother. Valerie Bertinelli also participated in the short-lived trend of impersonating Musk, worrying Twitter is ignoring the real intent of the blue check mark: “Scammers would have a harder time impersonating you.” Bertinelli eventually switched back to her real name, avoiding suspension.
