Seven Reasons Why Video Games Can Be Good For You

At some point, most of us were told that if we kept playing video games our brains would waste away and turn into a big pile of mush. Well, not so fast there little buckaroo. There are some good things that gaming can bring to the table…seven of them, in fact.

  • 2013 study found that video games could help “dyslexic children read better.”
  • Another study showed that some games could help slow “mental decay.”
  • Canadian researcher found that gamers tended to have more “lucid” dreams and could even “control” aspects of them.
  • A 2012 experiment found that surgeons who played video games “for more than three hours per week” made “37% fewer errors and were 26% faster” than surgeons who didn’t play video games.
  • long-term study found no evidence that violent video games contributed to violent behavior.
  • In fact, a 2014 study found that “being bad in a video game can make us more morally sensitive.”
  • At the University of Rochester, scientists discovered that frequent action gamers tended to have quicker reaction times and made “right decisions faster.”
