The Best (And Worst) Cities For Staycations

As we head into summer, more people will be going on vacations, but not everyone will be packing a bag and grabbing their passport. Some don’t have the time or the energy to take a getaway, and that’s where a staycation comes in.

They don’t have to stay at home bored, they can explore their own city and all it has to offer. Of course, some cities are better for this than others and new research reveals which ones they are.

  • WalletHub’s annual list of the Best and Worst Cities for a Staycation has just come out.
  • They compared 182 U.S. cities in three main categories related to a fun-filled and wallet-friendly staycation: recreation, food & entertainment and rest & relaxation.
  • These include golf courses and swimming pools per capita, number of amusement parks, festivals and museums, as well as cost of massages and summer weather.
  • Based on all of those, the best place for a staycation in 2023 is Honolulu, Hawaii. It tops the list for recreation, and is 10th for food & entertainment.
  • Orlando, Florida, comes in first for food & entertainment, while West Valley City, Utah is first for rest & relaxation.
  • On the bottom of the list is Chula Vista, California, making it the worst city for a staycation. It scores near the bottom in every category.
