Film Stars Offer To Kick In $150-Million In Dues Over 3 Years To End Strike

Last month, the Writers’ Guild Of America hit pause on a meeting called by some of their highest-profile members ahead of negotiations with the studios (the AMPTP). Well the writers’ strike did indeed end, but things are going a bit differently for actors’ union SAG-AFTRA.

The guild accepted a meeting from some of its A-list members, including Oscar winners George Clooney, Emma Stone, Ben Affleck, Tyler Perry, and Scarlett Johansson. This crop of artists got a chance to pitch a proposal meant to help union leaders Fran Drescher and Duncan Crabtree-Ireland put a quicker end to the actors’ strike.

Among the offers from the stars are the chance to charge the performers who make more money higher dues which will increase the union’s budget for health benefits. They’ve also suggested that the people who make the least money get their residuals first in a “bottom-up residual structure.” There’s no word yet on the group’s proposal to tackle SAG-AFTRA’s demands on AI or increase residuals in the first place.
